Under around 80$. Cheap as possible. Ill get the athlon 250 if it wont bottleneck a 9800gt and do decent in games. Just trying to save money.

You can get x3's well north of 3.0ghz for $80 online... or at least you could recently.

You can use the ASUS M4A88T-M LE motherboard and use the core unlocker to unlock the 4rth core on an Athlon II X3 455. I'll post links in the next post because it doesn't seem to work well on this site.

They aren't always in stock, so you have to keep an eye out. I happened to need a few AM3 CPUs to build bitcoin miners and wasn't willing to shell out big bucks for a crappy, single-core Sempron, so the X3 705es fit the bill perfectly.

When/If the miners are retired, it'll still be a very useful quad-core CPU.

Thats an awesome deal, if you live near a microcenter. If you have to buy online, I would look at a Phenom II X4 830 as the minimum. There is no point in going with less then a quad core from these 45nm AMD cpus.

Don't waste your time with an Athlon II X2, at least get an Athlon II X3, that 3rd core really helps.

Im really considering the 250. It saves me 20-30$ and i dont need much more power than it provides oced to a 24/7 clock. Its not gonna bottleneck my 9800gt either. If I need more power ill upgrade when prices drop. Theres gotta be a good reason to spend that extra money.
