Budget 5.1 Speakers

Hey, just seeing if anyone had any recommendations for budget 5.1 speakers, under 100 bucks. Right now i'm thinking about the new Logitech z640s, but anyone have opinions on some other sets, like the Creative Inspire speakers or anything else?

Edit: Oh yeah, its just cuz i'm moving into a small apartment and i'd like to watch some dvds on my computer 🙂

I personally think the Creative Inspire 5300 is the best of the budget 5.1 systems regardless whether you're fan of their sound cards or not. You can find them for as little as $69.95. They don't sound so good when you really crank up the volume, but then again, none of the other budget systems do either. I've also got the Altec Lansing 251 5.1 running with my Acoustic Edge. You can get these for about $70 online as well. They're more powerful than the 5300's, but just don't sound as good when running at reasonable volume levels.

Of course, none of these budget 5.1's sound as good as some of the more expensive ($150) 4.1 sysytems out there like the AL 641 or Logitech z560.

Hmm, i probably won't be playing the speakers too loud since i'm on the 3rd floor of an apartment complex. And loud bass isn't a concern. Any other systems to check out besides these?

Logitch z640
Creative Inspire 5300
Altec Lansing 251

IMO there arent any decent 5.1's in that price range

i would really try to find a set of Promedia 2.1s because they are definitely the best speakers in you price range

What about Altec Lansing's 4100's Enhanced? I know its only 4.1 but I really dont think there is THAT much difference, they are around $125 online. Or Basic 500bs, those are $60, not to mention still great. 😀

Best budget 5.1 speakers below $100 is probably between Videologic ZXR-500 ,Creative Inspire 5300,I`ve not heard the Logitech Z640 but would include them in the list, the Videologic and Creative speakers are ok if you don`t turn the sound up too high.So these three models would be on my short-list for that price range.

Hmm... well i'm currently using the old Cambridge Soundworks FPS1000 speakers, like the first 4.1 speakers for PC, so i guess even a new 4.1 system would be a decent upgrade. Other than watching dvd's, i'm borderline hardcore gamer, so i'd rather not get a 2.1 system even if it is Klipsch 😛 just for the rear speakers. Guess i need to go find a place to check out how some speakers sound 🙂

Monsoon mh-505. $135 @ mwave.com.

These things replaced my logitech Z560s. The only gripe I have about 'em is that the sweet spot is really REALLY limited -- you have to place the speakers and position yourself within a small range to get the best out of 'em.

When you do, you'll easily forget about their price 🙂

If you're more of a bass person...then these things probably won't cut it. They're not weak, but they're not strong either...

Out of curiosity, has anyone seen the z640's at any stores that i could listen to them? They're online at Best Buy's website, but they don't seem to be in any stores yet. And since i was given a 60 dollar gift card to Best Buy, i'd like to use that toward a speaker purchase. Otherwise my choice is between the Inspire 5300 and AL 251s.

z-560, klipsch 4.1, altec lansing 641's, boston acoustics BA4800's

first 2 are more for gamers latter are more for music

all of them are more than $100 though

inspire series suck IMO stay away from them they will sound just like the FPS series

Megaworks series is very nice though

I can't afford that much on speakers, and i'm not that big on audio anyway. My roomate last year had the Klipsch 5.1, and i didn't think it was worth the money at all, especially since i don't need anything that loud or with that much bass. Anyway, like i said, looking for something under 100 dollars, not a listing of high end PC speakers.

i recommend keeping your current speakers because you will see little improvement spending < 100 on computer speakers if you already have the FPS1000's

most of the ones i mentioned can be had for a little over $100 (120-140) also except for the Promedia 4.1's
