Budding Filmmakers! Deal on Final Cut

Free trade-in. Hmmm I have an original Premiere 4.2 and a full version 5.1 CD I could easily gamble with. What does the express version omit? I dont fell like learning something new, but I've always heard good things about Final Cut. I'll have to check it out.

I got in on the deal (traded in my Adobe Premiere 6.0) a couple of weeks ago and got my copy of Final Cut Express last week. No real manual in the box (900 page PDF on the CD) but they did include a DVD with simple instructions on how to get started.

I have Premiere 6.5 on my main workstation and I can definately say that Final Cut is a much better product. I like the fact that I can mark the DVD chapters in FCE and have it work with iDVD seamlessly.

FCE is a version behind FCP. FCP also includes Soundtrack & LiveType and will work with a multitude of formats. FCE is DV only.

Delbert I can't dig up the Premiere disc I thought I could. Please email me if you'd like to sell one.

Correct.

Part of Apple's strategy is to release great software for a relatively low price to sell the hardware. When FCP first apeared it was being compared to $10k solutions. FCP retails for $1,000. In a similar vein Shake is $4,950 for OS X and $9,900 for Linux and IRIX. Render nodes are free on OS X and $3,900 for others. This only works if you release good software. And so far Apple has released excellent stuff. FCP has caught on in a big way.
