Question Budding 8 year old artist: old iPad Pro or current ipad

My 8 year old really enjoys drawing and I’m thinking of gifting her a tablet pretty much strictly for drawing. Used iPad pros seem to be about the same price and current gen regular iPads - which should I go for (pro 9.7 is in our budget). Thanks!

The 9.7" Pro was the least Pro iPad that there's been. It was basically a slightly faster iPad Air 2 with quad speakers, Pencil support, and a camera bump.
