forget baltimore, the former 'skin is coming to tampa!

superbowl here we come (hopefully!)

the terms of the contract are 5 years for 28 million, so i guess its not that terribly outrageous. i was expecting it to be much much worse somehow.

BJ isn't the be all end all at QB some people think he is. He's good but not great...I think TB would have been better off skicking with SK and brining him along. Plus I don't think BJ has ever played a full season and seems somewhat injury prone.

i agree that johnson isn't the greatest qb ever, but he is a good qb, and while i have faith in shaun king, i think he could do very well learning from a veteran that has actually won some games, unlike dilfer at the time he was learning from him. i just am happy to see someone w/ some serious leadership skills at qb.

did anyone else see that the bucs also acquired ryan leaf to be a 3rd string qb behind johnson and king? i'm kinda amused at that:)

I see we are going back to the old ways for the Bucs. Keep changing all the key players so they can never learn to play as a team.

Uh brad johnson blows big bubbles (for lack of using harsher words) and tampa bay will never see the superbowl in your lifetime. if he was so good he wouldnt have bounced to the 50 millionth team ala soon to be new loser ryan leaf. Then again ryan leaf might get a job in oakland or los angeles or wherever the raiders play these days, as al davis' ball boy. Sorry i just had to let that off my chest, i'm just so sick of people getting their hopes up with these losers.

You lucked out this year;). but come on you have to admit that ryan leaf fits the jim plunkett profile. Seriously i cant believe miami didnt look into getting brad johnson again he's nothing but a journeyman but at least he's better than the moron playing in miami now.

To all you brad johnson bashers-I watched him play the last couple of years in washington, and he's not as bad as you say. His completion percentage is usually high, and he's extremely accurate with the short pass. Also, he played all 16 games in 1999, and 12 in 2000 (yanked by turner, as you may recall, in large part due to lack of wide recievers and the team's overall disapointing play)

Tampa doesnt need a run and gun offense, so this was a good sign for them. What I can't understand is the leaf signing? this guy is poison in a locker room-how much worse do you think he could be if he's unhappy and stuck as the 3rd string QB.

edit:

<< if he was so good he wouldnt have bounced to the 50 millionth team ala soon to be new loser ryan leaf >>

this is his third team-he was drafted by the vikings, gave them two good years once given the opportunity, then got traded when the vikings decided he didnt fit their plans to open the passing game up (a good choice, IMO)...He hasnt bounced around the league, he's well above the point ryan leaf will ever reach, and it was a smart move by the bucs-who have needed a legit. passing game for a while </edit>

Again, as i said before if Brad "riding the pine" Johnson is so good why is he with his what is it now ,scratching head, fifth team. Or is it general managers in the NFL suffer from some mysterious brain freeze when it comes to golden boy.

Lucked out? Nope...going all the way this year...if that fatass Siragusa hadn't fallen on Gannon I think we could have taken Balt.

I think the Fins might be down for a while...you guys need a solid QB...I can't believe they aren't making a play for Grbac(up) or Trent Green.

You're right about the Jim Plunkett profile though....

shinerburke i just hope Dave wannstedt doesnt pull another chicago in miami. I just read the bears cut curtis enis reecently, guess who drafted him in the first round 3 years ago?, good ole dave, why do i think he'll be at training camp. What he's thinking of with that doofus fiedler behind center is beyond me and yeah grbac might look decent but the problem with him is the asking price and fitting it under cap. By the way anyone know the next opponent for the US soccer team in world cup qualifiers?

I actually think Enis could be a good RB in the right system. He did pretty well his first year but then Chi town's O line went to crap. I've never thought Wannstadt was much of a coach though...I think they owe their turn-around this year to Chan Gailey.

well its already started dave picked up a guard out of chicago so it shouldnt be to hard to believe that enis is next. Meanwhile they dont have anyone that can throw out of a brown paper bag. :disgust: to have Marino back with ten years off his age, then maybe brad johnson can watch a little more film on how a drop back passer really looks like and probably save himself the pain of having to move on to his 4th team.

by the way brad johnson stunk at florida state too. again tampa bay fans dont get yourselves all worked up over brad he stinks and your coach wouldnt let him throw the ball 20 times a game anyway, so whats the point. line up in the wishbone. Geez you guys rode dilfer out of town all he did was win a super bowl(not really him) now youd probably want him back.

perhaps you missed the part of his statistics where his career completion percentage is 61.8?

You really are under-rating him. his strength is the short passing game, and, though he doesnt have much of a deep range, he can really loft a nice pass up in the 30-40 yard range. Also, think about it this way-the ravens won last year with a QB told not to lose-and johnson is much better at "not losing" than dilfer. The bucs dont have a defense as great as baltimore's, but they easily rank up in the top 5...they will have a really impressive team next year. And this is coming from a redskins fan-the team who, in case you forgot, lost to the bucs because of a bad snap on a field goal, costing them a shot at making the super bowl two years ago.

Ok Ok, i'm ragging on johnson way too much. Maybe its because i'm a University of Miami graduate "Go Canes" and i happened to see him play at burt reynolds U . He's not your savior, no one is, the main problem with your offense is your head coach. He's a great defensive coordinator masquerading as a head coach. Wouldnt it be great to see doug flutie in a dolphins uniform? I dont think there is any one football player more hated in miami than he is.

On the news last night, there was speculation as to whether King and Johnson will have to compete for the starting role...

King seems to be an average quarterback at best--he's done well (by Buc standards) but has a lot to learn. Problem is the Bucs want to win it all now (then again, don't they all?), not later when King is more mature.

Johnson is a much better passer than King is right now--K. Johnson needs to catch a lot more balls (Johnson & Johnson--I can see Tampa Bay Area getting tired of that one!) and Brad should be able to get it to him more often than King.

Leaf needs a new attitude and should grow up about 10 years. Yes he has physical skills/potential...but the question really is whether or not Leaf is ready to grow up and be a man who can handle himself on and off the field. I don't think he is--but I'd like to be surprised.

I'm a huge fan of the Bucs and the Dolphins...Born in Clearwater...my first Dolphin game was Pre-season vs the Bucs (Bob Greise was QB :) and 'Fins won 14-7.

Why do some things seem so obvious to the fans and the franchise can't seem to get it at all? (ie: Bucs need a QB/Dolphins need a RB--well, Dan could have used one at least, Lamar's pretty good so far)

Anyway...just mho.

Well part of the problem with the dolphins not running had to do with the fact that shula coasted the last 5 years of his coaching career if not more. All he did was give the ball to marino and hope he threw 5 TD passes. It took Jimmy 5 years to build a defense and line to be able to get to the point where lamar broke a 1000 yards. problem with that was marino was in the twilight of his career after taking all that abuse for a decade because the dolphins couldnt run out of a brown paper bag. Tampa ought to do well with brad at QB but thats all based on "IF" the coach actualy sticks his nose out of the offense which he has proven he knows nothing about, and let the guy throw.

You're right, dolphins, that's a big *if* concerning Dungy...he's very very very conservative--too conservative, I think. He's got to allow Brad to throw a lot more than they currently do...
