Saw it in a 600 max capacity club.

Surprisingly the songs really benefitted from the live setting as opposed to the overproduced feel on their albums. Keyboards were more subdued. Guitar was dirtier and bass was up. Vocals were excellent, coming off, as you'd hope, as just more pure versions of the recorded tracks, but the notes were all on.

They opened with Amaranth and Dark Chest of Wonders and expectedly stuck pretty much exclusively, as I recall, to the latest two albums. The encore was Sahara and I Wish i had An Angel.

The keyboardist has some kind of jack Sparrow complex. He had the Jack Sparrow eyeliner and facial hair and actually had a jack Sparrow 12" doll tied onto one of his stands.

Opening act was Paradise Lost and they were putting me to sleep. The music is fine, goth metal, but the songs all sound the same and they played like freaking ten of them.

Took my wife who prefers country and Christian and soft rock. I figured one way of the other, it would be an interesting experience, but, as I expected, she totally dug it.

I refuse to see them with the new lead. Tarja may have been a bitch, but I can't stand their music without her.

After listening to the new songs and then going back to the older ones, I definitely prefer the new singer. The operatic voice at some point started coming off a little to self-indulgent and erudite and was kinda holding the music back by giving it always the same high fantasy feel.......the new stuff is more modern and genuine and warm. I don't even know her name but my wife remarked a few seconds after she took the stage in her black and red striped tights and short dress "Wow, she's gorgeous."

And, ya, I already got tickets for their show in Sacramento (Boardwalk in Citrus Heights) even though it's not until April or something.
