Why doesn't the feds shut down the 1000's of porn sites ranking on gobs of money. Those are the real pirates of the internet.

Not a big deal. This is another takedown in a LONG line of takedowns. They take one down and two pop up in it's place.

This is nothing to the shock of Suprnova being brought down in 2005.

Im not doubting another site will pick up the slack, but the internnet is still in its infancy, and history wont always repeat itself.

I think its still unknown whether or not the free and open net will always be, and with it being easier and easier to steal pretty much anything, somethings gotta give. We've moved past the point of just stealing music, and some movies, to a point where even books can easily be stolen.

I agree the answer to stop it is to make the media more easily accessible. Its sad that the ones who actually pay for things are the ones that have to go through so much more hassle. For example, if i buy a dvd and want it on my ipad/tablet, i need to sit there and rip it, fight with drm etc. Whereas if i torrented it, when a better version/better quality/etc comes out i can just get that. Its just sad that the pirates do it so much better.

My guess is that for now, the industry will not innovate and will try to punish offenders. Lets alll pray SOPA and PIPA never go through.

Agreed but we have to ask ourselves ... with all of the crackdowns/lawsuits going on in the filesharing community (mostly bittorent-based) why would you continue to use it? When you use BT you share your IP so that anyone ... including the MPAA and RIAA know who is sharing their stuff. It's pretty easy for them to track you down via your ISP. It's a risk that can best be avoided.

When you're listening/watching/whatever something you like, you can give money to the artist by clicking the button. 10¢, $10, whatever. You give what you think it's worth, and what you can afford. If you don't think it's worth anything, or can't afford it, you don't pay.

You mean like the way media conglomerates expect things for free from the public domain? How much money has Disney made using stories that people wrote long ago, but now they insist that nobody is allowed to use their stories?

Copyright is the exclusive ownership of an idea. That's completely unnatural, once an idea is in the wild anybody is free to think it, but society agreed to temporary exclusive right to sell an idea that it would encourage people to create new ideas. How many new cartoons has Walt Disney drawn? How many new songs has John Lennon written? Why are things copyrighted until 70 years after the creators death if the idea is incentive to create?

Sorry pal, but corporations are the thieves here, and I feel no pity for them. Let Hollywood rot for all I care.
