BTC dvd-burner just makes coasters of cd's...

Just installed a BTC 1008 DVD+- burner which supposedly also burns cd's. However, when I try to burn cd's, even at just 16x speed it makes a coaster out of it 1 out of 4 or 5.

I have the burner installed as "slave" together with a dvd drive. I have DMA enabled.

My specs are Athlon 2000XP, 512 mb ram, WinXP, burner program NERO OEM.

Thanks for any ideas for solving this...

Is BTC such a bad brand? I know it's not top of the pops, but it should work, at least, shouldn't it?

I had a BTC DVD burner (I think it was the 1008 drive) for a few weeks, and it worked fine with both DVDs and CDs.

What kind of media are you using, and have you tried different brands?

That's odd, but I'd definately try a different type of media. Verbatim's are usually decent, but maybe the BTC doesn't like them. I burnt Imation and Memorex DVD's in mine, and Fuji CD-R with no problems.

The burner set as a slave shouldn't be the problem, as I had a DVD drive as the master as well.

Most all DVD Burners seem to work best as the Master on the IDE channel. Many posts pertaining to this can be found at DVDRHelp.com. The solution to most of those posts were to put it as the master. Try it and see if it works. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your replies. I tried changing the master-slave settings and have had two succesful burns till now, will burn more in the coming days. I hope that was it! - I'll come back and tell you.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm very grateful that you took your time to write it,
