BST buyer being unreasonable

I recently sold 2 sticks of RAM to a newbie, first-time buyer in BST (Not on Anandtech).

At first, he insisted on receiving the RAM before paying me. After many PM's, I finally got him to pay first with my eBay and Heat. Obviously, he was very new to online buying and selling.

Now 3 days later after receiving it, he claims that one of the sticks of RAM is defective. He wants me to refund half of the price (including shipping).

I am 100% sure that the RAM works fine. I even ran Memtest86 right before shipping it in a static wrap! I packed it very well

Now, I didnt want to ruin my feedback so I agreed refunding half the shipped price if the buyer returns the "defective" stick.

But here's the twist, the buyer refuses to send back the stick of RAM and calls me a scammer and leaves me bad feedback.

He's filing a claim with Paypal.

Do I have anything to worry about?

Thanks and help is much appreciated.

Thats a tough one, better contact Paypal and tell them your side. I'm not sure what the protection is on paypal outside of ebay.

Will they be on my side since I offered a refund if it was shipped back to me?

What exactly did he write in his claim? Do you have a tracking #?

Keep all correspondences and information between you and the buyer.

I dont have a tracking #

But in the claim, the buyer confirms that he has received it.

Just tell Paypal that the refund will be issued once the Ram is shipped back to you.
He'll also need to provide proof that he sent it back.

If you don't have a tracking number or some other means of proving you shipped the RAM & he received it you may well be screwed.

What possibly possesed you to ship without tracking?

But Paypal knows the buyer has received it though because even the buyer says that he recieved it.

Why would I need to provide a shipping # to provide evidence of shipping if the buyer can testify that he received it?

He said the buyer already acknowledged that he received the ram.
He's done his part.

All he has to do is respond by saying, once the defective ram is returned to him, he'll give a partial refund.

Because without it all the buyer has to do is claim he never received the package & you lose. Period.

Hopefully it won't come up & Paypal will side with you, and even with a tracking number in hand theres no garantee, however for future reference always spend the roughly 50 cents for tracking/delivery confirmation which at least increases your odds.

While by logic I agree you are correct, this is Paypal were talking about here & although I've never personally had a problem, I know several folks who have literally been ripped off by buyers because they failed to get tracking numbers.

One of them had a very similar experience to the OP's where the person who received the package first claimed he was shipped defective goods & then changed his story to claim he never got it ... Paypal sided with the buyer & issued a refund.
