BSODs During Windows Install

I was putting together a machine for my mom earlier today, and I keep getting BSODs during the windows install. At first I was trying to install XP, and then I figured it may have been a bad disc...so I tried 2k, but with the same result. They are random BSODs that never seem to happen at the same time during the install. The computer specs are as follows...

Athlon XP1900
ECS K7S5A
1x512 Crucial SDRAM
GF2Ti
Pioneer 16x DVD
40GB IBM 120GXP

I was thinking that it's probably the hard drive, but what do you guys think. I have an old IBM 14 gig drive that's been running like a champ for over 3 years...I figured I would take that over tomorrow and see if an install works on it. Good idea? Bad? Any other ideas?

Do you have another piece of ram, like some DDR. Usually when you get the bsod for OS install is has something to do with the RAM. It could be the motherboard, but try some DDR ram first.
 
Yeah, try another piece of ram or try moving the 512MB piece to the other slot. Especially in that motherboard! 😉
 
I would suggest running at 100FSB first. IF it is stable then move to 133FSB that way you'll know if it's hardward, memory or the processor that's giving you problem.

As it turns out...it was the new stick of Crucial RAM that I just bought. I stuck in two older sticks that I had laying around, and it now works like a champ.
