BSOD with Goback; hard drives not recognized correctly in BIOS; floppy failure

I am screwing around with this all day! PC is running windows 2000. I remember right clicking on my CD drive in Device Manager and got a long blue screen with a reference to a GoBack file. I have tried swapping IDE cables but no luck. The BIOS won;t correctly recognize the two hard drives; master is 20 GB and slave is 30 GB. Both show as 8.3 GB. AND to top it off, if I set up to boot from floppy, it says floppy drive failed and stops right there.

IF I boot to the first HD (with windows) it tries to load GoBack. It has disabled GoBack and I cannot re enable it. I get a GoBack error 115 and 135 and it just loops through messages saying it cannot fix the MBR. How can I fix the MBR if I can't get to DOS? Of course Symantec has no reference to those error messages.

I bought some 40 pin IDE cables by mistake and got the "Primary IDE 80 channel cable not installed". But with all that the HDs were recognized correctly in BIOS! I have switched the IDE with another from a working PC and get DISK ERROR.

Please help!
