I just passed some parts down to a friend so he can have a comp. Everying is installed and detected in bios just fine, but when I start to install windows, it goes for about a min installing the beinging stuff and then BSOD. i thought it was the HDD but it works just fine in my comp and i tried a old lappy drive that i know works. Whats the deal, i cant get it to work. Now that i think about it, it might be overheating, cuz im not to sure about how well the hs is on there, it was idling at 45 in bios on the stock x2 4pipe cooler.

BSOD

Could be the RAM doesn't like the mobo or XP doesn't like the hardware. That's a tough one

Well i KNOW for a fact the ram is in perfect condiction and runs great, it was in my system not to long ago until it was replaced by 2gb. Should i run it anyway to see if it the mobo that doesnt like the ram?

For the cooling, i need to reset it just to make sure. thanks for the help so far.

I had a BSOD error that said it was due to my HDD when installing windows. Turns out the timings on the RAM were too aggressive.

But did you test it out? Being perfect and fine does not make it error free

It usually is a hardware problem. Also, in BIOS, set things for the default, and disconnect all peripherals. They can be added later, one at a time.

You might also try making sure the HD is wiped. I've ran into weird problems of locked files on the HD and windows deciding that it didn't like playing when I tried reinstalling windows.

That might be it, it currently has windows installed on the drive, i just want to do a repair install. it will save me time in the end.

I should look to see if there is a defults bios setting, i didnt do that and its a phenix bios so i will check, the comp will be at my house in a half hour or so.

are you using xp w/service pack 1 or 2? if it's sp1 try disabling the pci-e slot in the BIOS, sp 1 does not support pci-e. or you could slipstream sp2 in the install.
