BSOD - upgrading win2k to XP prof. -

I am back with yet another blue screen of death - I just finish an upgrade from win2k prof to XP prof - everything appeared to install fine except on the first try it couldn't find iexporer and another file on the CD - I moved the CD to my other drive and it found the files and loaded them fine - on reboot I got the BSOD - I can not boot in safe mode, have tried a reinstall but the screen remains blue - the stop error is 07B - the system was running fine prior to the upgrade -

MSI k7n2 delta
AMD 2800
ATI 9600 pro
512mb crucial ddr2700
WD 120 gig HD
maxtor 100 gig
lite on 52x cd
lite on 4x dvd r+/-

any ideas? if i can't get this to work can i get back to win2k without losing everything (settings)?

an update - we did a clean install of XP on the slave HD and booted from there - all works perfectly - tried to boot from the primary drive containing to upgraded from win2k to XP and still get a blue screen

lost in blue - please - any ideas?

Disable all services that you don't need. To do this, one way is to go to the recovery console from the XP CD, and then type listsvc to list the services to disable, and then disable servicename to disable the services.

But give us more information - can you send me the memory.dmp or minidump file? What are the other parameters (stop 7b (xyz, xyz, xyz, xyz) in the error message? What kind of IDE (?) controller do you use?

And please tell me again what happened when you installed XP - everything seemed OK, then you couldn't find Internet Explorer - and then what happened? More details.

we shutdown some processes but problem continues

the ide controller is NVIDIA NForce MCP2 IDE Controller

since i can not boot the machine in safe or any mode I do not know how to get a memory dump - is there something I should run or is this something I can catch from the XP recovery?

when my son tried to do the first upgrade it run for a while and then came back with a message that it couldn't find cmprops.dll - the cd still on the drive but it couldn't find the files - he pressed cancel and it continued until it tried to find iexplorer.exe. hit cancel again and the install finish - re-booted to the blue screen

I suggested that he re-install XP - he got the same 'can't find' cmpropos.dll but this time he put the cd in his other drive and it found it - it also found iexplorer and completed the install - but re-booted to the blue screen.

If disabling every service you can find (that isn't a normal Microsoft service) won't let you boot, I'd probably just go with a repair install.
