BSOD Registry error

I lended my laptop to one of my roommates, and from now on i never will. But for somereason when it is booting to windows xp it gives BSOD with registry error, i tried booting into safe mode but still the same problem. Can anybody give a suggestion.

That article doesn't say squat about safemode.

sorry, the problem is that when i try to enter recovery console it gives me the same BSOD..
are there any bootable programs that repair registry?

ok thanks, the registry was fixed, but now i cannot logon to windows, i don't know the administrator password, and it is not the one that i was using before

i have found the problem to be the SAM file, it was corrupt because the computer wasn't shut down properly during the logon. Is there anyway to fix the sam file.. i don't want to replace it because the administrator passwords on backup sam files are unknown.

Generally you want to pair up system and software. If you use one from a previous date, use the same of the other. Same thing with SAM and Security.

If it was just a dirty shutdown it's unlikely that all four hives got hit with damage. Use the older, known-good system and software but try keeping your current SAM and security.
