basically ive been running my system for a while and not encountered any problems til i tried to upgrade my cd drive.

pc specs:
AMD 6000+ am2
Asus crosshair mobo
4gb of geil ram
xfx 8800ultra xxx edition
750w zalman psu
samsung spinpoint hdd
X-Fi extreme music.
Akasa mirage 62.
asus DRW-2014L1T optical drive (where the problem lies)
windows vista ultimate 64

everything worked fine till i brought the DRW-2014L1T, basically what happens is i usually get a bsod just before the logon screen and occasionally it gets past that and i see my desktop for 2 secs or so then bsod. if i unplug the sata cable to the drive all works fine again. i have other cd drives (bit the old ide type) that work fine. any ideas? :D

cheers

Has any sata dvd ever worked on this mb?

What does the mb bios report the asus dvd as?

Try a different sata cable and/or mb sata connector.

thanks for the replies. ive tried 3 different sata cables, the drive works before windows is loaded, i can boot from it and read/run tests, all report a working status. its supposed to be vista compatable. i will send it back and hope the next one works :p
