I have just formatted and reinstalled winXP pro for the second time in two months. I have been running XP for about 6 months and just recently I began getting this problem. Doing many different types of things such as moving my mouse over links, opening new windows in explorer, or starting any program would set off a blue screen saying Page_fault_in_non_paged_area and my computer would shut down. Finally, after a while of doing this it went to where it would come up to the screen just before logon and say Windows XP, with the blue background, and freeze there (not black screen while booting up). I tried chkdsk /r from the prompt and it recovered errors but did nothing for the start up problem. I formatted and reinstalled XP. I believed Norton System Works or my Nvidia Riva TNT card to be the problem so I never reinstalled it (and I got a Geforce 4 mx440 agp). After about a week it happened again. This time I ran chkdsk and it said there were unrecoverable errors and when I went to try and reinstall xp it said drive c: was corrupt and unrecoverable. I got a new Western Digital 7200rpm 40GB drive and installed XP on it and am using the old drive for extra space which appears to work fine. Does anyone know what may have caused this?
