BSOD on win xp upgrade

I bought new mobo and a64 cpu and I decided to upgrade from win2k to win xp...the installation went smooth until the final installation the win xp restart then BSOD saying that it needs to check hard drive or disable virus or something like that along with numeric error message. I did not had a chance to write down because I was pissed off at win xp destoryed all of data and programs I had to re-install trusty old win2k over again.

What went wrong? I think I am going to waste my money taking pc to the shop have them install it for me.

Uhm...well if you do not have the stop error number I cannot help that much.

The simple thing to do would be to install WinXP from scratch - do not upgrade from Win2K - there is no reason to do an upgrade install if you can help it. Things will run better and smoother with an install from scratch.

I finally installed win xp pro it works using clean installation. But I have problem right now is I get error message saying Generic Host process win32 is corrupt or something like that. what should I do?

Well if you are still having errors I would look at the memory or hard drive as the culprit. Do a chkdsk on the hard drives and have it scan for bad sectors or run memtest on the RAM.

I don't think it has to do with hard drive with bad sectors and or memory. Oh well thanks anyway. 🙁

The error that you're receiving after a clean install is a clear indication that you have issues. You should at least see if you can complete 5 passes of Memtest86+

I found out your clear indication is incorrect the memory is fine I had to fresh install it again and the problem is gone.
