Hi Everyone,

After an automatic windows update (I use Windows 10), the BSOD will never end! Basically, when I boot up my laptop, the ASUS logo comes up, and even before it reaches the login page, it goes into the BSOD. The cycle repeats.

Any suggestions on how to fix this..?

Thanks in advance!

As I recall, a BSOD has a message in it. What is yours? Can you boot into SAFE Mode?

I would use the installation dvd and select repair and see if it can fix the issue, otherwise you're looking at a clean install which is best anyways.

F8, I think. It's been so long...

Nope, modern Windows 8.0 and up PCs, especially laptops, are set for Fast Boot and Secure Boot in the BIOS enabled, so that means that they don't respond to keypresses before Windows boots. And you can't get to Safe Mode anyways, in Windows 8.0 and onward, unless you actually go into the OS and enable "Advanced Recovery".

So he's screwed.

Have to remove the HDD, slave it to another machine, boot off of a Linux LiveDVD, back up your data, and format the HDD. Then, with a clean empty HDD, put it back in the laptop, and you will be able to get to the BIOS since it will halt booting, and then change your BIOS settings, and then plug in your Windows Recovery Media (you did make Recovery Media after you first got the laptop, right?), and boot off of it, and it will format the HDD and put Windows back on it.

All this, because people clamored for 1-2s faster boot times.

Good info, Larry. Ah, yes, . . . the impatience of youth! :)

If you can boot to Win 10 install media, you can then do a reset or refresh. No?

I forgot about that. You might be able to boot Win10 install media and select "Advanced Startup", and be able to get to Safe Mode that way. I should remember that. Maybe my advice was wrong, there might be a better way to go about this.
