BSOD, no dump file

Yes, it's me again. I think it's time to replace my PC.

I've had two BSODs today, both came in the middle of work (typing). Here's the problem: they did not write dump files. So I can't use WhoCrashed because there is no report despite several BSODs over the last few days. Second, when Windows restarts, there is no message box saying Windows recovered from a serious error, do I want to send a report, etc.

In Windows System settings, under advanced, the boxes for Write an Event to the system log is checked.

sfc /scannow from the command line found no errors.

So, any help is appreciated. TIA. Specs are below. I use Windows 7-x64

See if System Events under Windows Logs gives you information on the BSOD.

How old is your SSD? OCZ was still making a lot of bad drives when the Vertex 4 came out.

There are a couple ways to test your RAM - memtest and running one stick at a time.

Were you accessing anything on the Seagate when the computer crashed?

Since you weren't gaming at the time, should be able to rule out the video card and drivers.

I see nothing under the logs, but then again I don't know what to look for. There are gaps in the logs which correspond to the BSODs but no error message.

The SSD is about 2 years old. SSD Life gave it a clean bill of health.

I did run Memtest 5 but with both sticks. No errors.

I was typing. In both BSODs they happened while I was writing something. One was an email, another was a post on a message board. That's really what confuses me.

If it happens again, take out one stick of RAM, and see if it makes any difference. Do this for both sticks.

So you think it's a memory issue?

One thing has occurred to me. I play EverQuest, an MMO like World of Warcraft, and I play multiple characters. This will consume at least 8 gigs on a 16 gig machine. It never blue screens. But no EQ loaded and type an email? Boom. You'd think it would be the other way around.

I don't know, just giving some ideas. If you get a blue screen, there should be something in the Event Viewer. You may have to dig a bit, but there should be something there.

Are you using a paging file.
I believe windows needs a minimum of a 800 MB on a page file for the log files to work.

Yes I am.

It bluescreened twice today when I attempted to connect my iPhone for a backup. On the blue screen it said it was preparing to write a dump file but froze. After a few minutes I hit the hard reset and restarted. No dump file was ever written.
