i havent installed or updated or removed any software/drivers but after 3 weeks running stable (new pc) i am randomly now getting BSODs with the above error

the stop code is 0x000000A which googling generally points to RAM but i left memtest running off a cd for 9 hours while at work and i didnt get a single error. i've also ran prime off a linux boot cd and that didnt give errors either.

i have disabled all unneeded hardware in the bios - serial/paralell ports, usb/firewire etc and its still the same.

apart from reintsalling windows, is there anything else i can try?

"A Stop 0xA message might occur after installing a faulty device driver, system service, or firmware. If a Stop message lists a driver by name, disable, remove, or roll back the driver to correct the problem. If disabling or removing drivers resolves the issues, contact the manufacturer about a possible update. Using updated software is especially important for multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, and CD mastering tools.
# A Stop 0xA message might also be due to failing or defective hardware. If a Stop message points to a category of devices (video or disk adapters, for example), try removing or replacing the hardware to determine if it is causing the problem. "

weell it bsods, with - IRQL_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL

then has the usual if this is the first time etc message

then in the tech info it says:

STOP 0x0000000A (0x0000BAB3, 0x00000002, 0X00000001, 0X806E4ABE)

and thats it. the 0X000000A is always the same. not 100% about the rest of the stop error tho.

i was hoping that second parameter might narrow it down..but nope.

if you really have done nothing to your system...then perhaps a system restore to just before the trouble started will fix you right up. If you don't have a recent restore point..then that would not be a good option.

the best i can do is suggest following this troubleshooting guide from MS support:

I had the exact same problem on my laptop on the same day as you. The error code was 0x000000A. I noticed that I had done some windows update and a Java Runtime Enviornment (JRE) update. So I did a system restore to a few days before and everything is fine now.

Ok so I am having the same exact problem, the irql bsod, however, it only occurs during my windows vista installation, which gets to the completing installation, restarts and then never quite recovers due to this problem.

During my first failed vista installation I sent feedback and received a message that it could be my AC'97 on board audio. So i checked for new vista drivers, which are available, but it will not allow me to install them until I properly have vista. Thus, I completely got rid of my audo drivers and tried to reinstall but I have the same problem.

Unfortunately, the bsod only flickers on, and it was with great care that I was able to read irql not less or equal. I really cannot get any more information from the page because it leaves too quickly.

Any help appreciated would be awesome. IT is my understanding that it is possible that it could be a video issue as well, so shall I uninstall my nvidia drivers before attempting another install? BTW I have a full business edition upgrading on home xp. I really do not have the resources to back up my whole documents and music so I am not doing a clean install :(

AVP, you need to turn off "Automatically Restart". Right Click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery settings > Under System Failure...

There are a few (actually a few dozen) on this, but take a look at this sampling to see if any of them help:

Hopefully there is something in one of those to help you out. If not, search the archives for IRQL and you wil get many more threads where the OP has this problem.

Wish I could help more.

Good luck!

Yeah, probably faulty driver. Did you check out EventViewer under Administrative Tools in Control Panel? It might provide some hint of what's going on. Take note of when it happens (is it more likely to occur when you first start or after playing a game for a while). You can remove cards as well to see if anything installed is the problem. How often does the error occur (every time you enter Windows or every once in a while)? Reinstall might actually be the easiest troubleshooting step you take...

Yeah, I got this several times and I thought it was a hardware driver and I was going nuts trying to find what it could be. I thought I narrowed it down to either my Logitech MX 310 mouse or my M-Audio 5.1 Revolution sound card. NOT.

Someone read my mini-dyumps and low and behold it was my Sunbelt Kerio firewall software causing the problem. The BSOD you list can run all over the place. More than likely it is a hardware device issue but not always as my experience has shown.

Ok thanks so much guys, I am going to start by doing everything all at once :) Unfortunately, I don't have the time to start one by one and analyze the situation totally, so I am going to uninstall my videodrivers, I already changed the auto restart settings, and ill remove my audio driver again, clock my videocard back to normal, and uninstall my anti virus and ill get back to you guys and see if it worked. Also I have run the upgrade compatibility program and I am more or less free of any possible problems. Anything that is a real problem has been removed.

By the way my event view is riddled with errors, for both system and application during the attempted vista installation. I can feed you guys these, but let me try one more time and I will see waht comes up.

Also I have a8n sli-deluxe, with nf4. It seems other asus/nf4 people have been having this problem. Well here it goes.

Hey guys I disabled ac 97 in bios and viola! I was able to finish the installation. Now I just need another gig of ram and a new processor, maybe a 2g flash drive....sigh... :)
