Remove the IMS Manager, as Windows has a built-in driver for this. Did you have a controller for the RAID or is it on the board?

If the BIOS is set to AHCI, Windows isn't showing any RAID adapters in Device Manager and only MSAHCI, then I would think that going into the registry and setting services like iaStor* to service start type 3 (manual) should be enough to take Intel RAID out of the picture.

Though situations like this are why I would have advocated nuking it from orbit to begin with - going from a single HDD setup to another and cloning is fairly risk free, but from RAID to a single SSD is a heck of a jump. Yes, it's more work to begin with, but then you're not scratching your head over a bizarre problem and wasting just as much time in the process. Perhaps I'm pessimistic but it's just not worth the risk.

(Not having a go at the OP)

It's an onboard RAID controller with only ONE "RAID/AHCI" setting in the BIOS. This makes me beleive that is using one driver for both RAID or AHCI modes (is this possible?). Maybe that is why the transition from RAID to a single SSD went smooth, if you can call the this Avira experience good.

I will nuke the system now, first trying to restore from a backup image (which was also from RAID). And if that does not work I will reformat.

Thanks for your answers.

NSA got you. :whiste:

Two years ago that would have been funny...

Anyway, you could uninstall the intel storage drivers while in safe mode. Also, is it possible your bios settings changed?

Sigh. Even while I was writing I think U might have to nuke/zero out....I had my toes crossed he wouldn't have to do that.

I try to think of these things as LEARNING EXPERIENCES. Why we gotta suffer to learn, I do not know.

As I jus posted, I was praying U would not have to nuke even while typing it. Now, not sure what YOU mean by that, tho, cause you say if that doesn't work then you will reformat.

By nuking I meant wiping out the disk. I installed a new system, the disk driver is version 8.6 and not 8.9 like before.

Case closed. The new disk works fine.
