BSOD booting in safe mode

Whenever I try booting in safe mode I get a BSOD. It boots without problems normally, and I don't get any stability issues under normal operation, but I don't know what causing it to fail when trying safe mode. I know it didin't have that problem when I had a fresh install. I've tried resetting everything to stock settings, and still no go. Any ideas on how to determine what's causing the problem?

My specs:
DFI NF4 Ultra-D
Opteron 165
x1900xt
Windows XP SP2
