I decided that it was time to stop ignoring all the windows update notifications that were telling me that there were updates that needed to be downloaded and installed, so I went through with it. There were about 40 "important" updates that it recommended I install and about 20 or so optional ones. After installing and rebooting, I noticed that apps weren't launching anymore (Steam, Skype, etc) - like they would just crash to desktop immediately. I checked windows update again and it said that some updates failed to install. I tried to install them again, which rebooted my computer and brought me to my main problem.
Now, I'm stuck on a BSOD "critical_process_died" and I can't even access safe mode because it does the same thing. I tried to do a system restore using the recovery menu, but both the restore points give me the same failure error. "System restore could not access a file. This is probably because an anti-virus program is running on the computer. Temporarily disable your antivirus program and retry System Restore. An unexpected error occurred during System Restore. (0x80070005)". Do antivirus programs still run even when Windows isn't loaded? I did a google search which suggested that I do "sfc /scannnow" on command prompt, which did detect corrupt files and says that it successfully fixed them, but I'm still having this boot loop error.
