BSOD at startup--"vxdldr" error

I wasn't sure which forum to put this in, since I didn't know if it was an OS problem or what.
Anyway, computer boots normally until it goes to the desktop. It briefly shows the desktop then immediately BSOD's and complains about "vxdldr" problem. If you "press any key" to get past it, it hangs at the desktop but does not show the desktop icons. It will boot when in safe mode, however. Please let me know if I need to post more info. My knowledge in this area is limited, so many thanks for any help!!

Specs:
Windows 98
Classic Athlon 1 gig proc
KT7-RAID
20gb WD hdd
Nvidia 32 meg vid card
128mg RAM
lite-on 52x burner

The only thing would be my digital camera. Now that you mention it, my computer began acting up shortly after I tried to connect my camera.

I bought a USB card reader to make life simpler in the digital camera department. Just pop out the card from the camera, put it in the card reader, copy the pictures from the card to a folder, and you're good to go!

VXD is a Virtual Device Driver, try unloading the device and all drivers and see if the issue goes away. If it does you know whats causing the problem. Contact the camera supplier and ask them for new drivers. 😀

+ 2 cents.

do you have your machine set up to allow different users to log on? That's what I have on my ME machine and i get the BSOD. I had to create a new log-in with a new name and password, then it worked just fine again. I haven't figured out why it happened yet, but that's a way around it. It's only temporary until I get XP this winter...
