BSOD appears intermittently

Hey everyone:
So I get this blue screen that pops up on my computer out of nowhere when i can be doing simple stuff like surfing the web or listening to music. The message displays a stop messages and displays the win32k.sys file. I'm assuming something is wrong with the file. I've tried switching out the ram, but that didn't work. This is what I am running.

Athlon XP 3000+ on MIS KT6V Motherboard
512 MB DDR 2700 or 3200
ATI Radeon 9200 SE Video card

Please help me out. Thanks.

Please post the STOP messages and error codes (the 0x_______ numbers). Without those, it doesn't really give us anything to go on for figuring out what possible causes would be.

the stop message says:
STOP: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0xbf837815, 0xb8d1fa68, 0x00000000)

*** win32k.sys - address bf837815 base at bf800000, datestamp 422511a2

My friend said it might be a virus..

Highly unlikely that it's a virus; viruses don't cause BSODs, as a rule.

0x0000008e is one of the more common BSOD stop codes. A bit of searching on Microsoft Support Knowledge Base should turn up some possible causes & solutions for you. And there's always Google at your side.
