Hi Guys

I have been experiencing problems with my PC. Earlier when I had installed win 7, I used to get bsod while gaming. BSOD error 0x124. After installing windows 8.1 I get RSOD(Red screen of death) while playing high demanding games.

My pc specs:-
Amd Phenom II X6 1090t (Processor)
ASUS M5A78lm-usb3(Motherboard). (New)
4gb Kingston 1333Mhz (Ram)
Seagate 500gb SATA
Sapphire HD 6850 1gb (Graphics card)
Corsair VS 650 (PSU) (Almost 2 years old)

Allthe rest system parts are almost 5 years( will complete 5 this November)

I tried testing memtest86+ with 8-12 passes. No errors. Replaced HDD with other 500gb HDD. Still getting RSOD on windows 8.1.

Games on which I experienced RSOD
1. Bf3
2. Bf4
3. Assassins creed Rogue
4. WWE 2k15

Games on which I haven't experienced RSOD yet

1.Pro Evolution Soccer 16

Guys plz suggest me what could be possibly wrong. I want to invest money in replacing something which is faulty.

Have you looked at your temperatures?

Are you overclocking anything?

No sir. Everything is running at stock. No oc.
My max temp while gaming
GPU-74 degree celsius until RSOD.
CPU-under 60 degree celsius
Mobo-lower than CPU core

Instead I have tested my friends Ram on my system. Still got RSOD.

Does your graphics card get as hot in Pro Evolution Soccer 16 as it does in the other games that give you issues? If it does not, this could be a sign that you video card is on its way out.

But before resigning to a bad card, take LTC8K6's advice and make sure the BIOS and graphics drivers are current.

Will update you with the temperatures in Pro Evolution Soccer 16.
As per drivers I have used from 13.11,13.12 to 14.12. Still no help.
Bios are updated and though its a new mobo, I already got it RMA'd thinking mobo to be culprit.

But my consious are down to either gfx card or PSU. Either of them are dying.

Today What I tried was I increased the gpu fan speed to 70%. Under load my gpu was at 68-69 degree celsius. I was playing bf4 but still I got RSOD. This rsod is blank red screen with noise and restarts later automatically.

I m using win 8.1. On win 8.1 I get RSOD. When I had win 7 I used to get BSOD with 0x124 error.

I had used win 10 with drivers 15.7 I guess. Still got RSOD but it was with error code as much as I remember. I thought RSOD was due to win 10. But then I installed win 7 and same problem persisted with bsod. And win 8.1 I get blank RSOD.

I have the logs. They say error 0x124. Hal.dll.

Difference
Win7-hal.dll+12a3b
Win8.1-hal.dll+c37... Something like that. Will confirm tomorrow but it starts with C.

Can you put the card in your friend's machine? That should confirm that the card is bad.

Ya I wish I could. But the thing is he is running cheap PSU which could fry his system and my gfx card.

He has hd 6670. Hd 6670 doesn't take any power from PSU. It takes from motherboard. I used his gfx card on my rig. I must say it handled bf4 at low settings on 1080p resolution and no fps drop. And my gfx card at medium settings struggles with fps drop. Though i didn't play for long enough with his gfx card but there was no RSOD till I played with his gfx card. I m thinking of testing with his gfx card again this weekend
