I have been having a problem for the past couple of months with my system and I would appreciate any feedback anyone is willing to give
A couple of months ago, my computer started spontaneously rebooting periodically (but rarely, maybe twice a week), computer up and stable for 6 months prior.
I wasn't paying attention to the STOP errors at that time, but when Windows comes back up it would say that it was caused by an unknown driver. The error was usually either STOP 0x00000050 Page Fault in Non Paged Area, or STOP 0x000000C5
This would alway happen during windows startup or within a few minutes of getting to the desktop. No hardware or software was added to the system for at least 2 months prior to this happening. It would also seem to happen more frequently if the CD-ROM or DVD-ROW drives were in use.
A few weeks ago, the computer restarted sometime overnight and this time Windows reported it as a hardware problem with the CPU. The error was a STOP 0x0000007F, 0x00000008 error (Double fault exception)
The computer was connected to the internet, but otherwise not doing anything.
I am not overclocking anything in the system. I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostics test for about 12 hours (All tests), with no problems.
I set up and ran a First Person Shooter FPS test and looped it for about 18 hours while checking the temp, voltage, and fans on CPU & MB, nothing out of the ordinary, The CPU heated to 56 deg C, still not out of range. No problems.
A few days later I got the double fault exception again, the only application open was Forte Agent, and the internet connection, but I wasn't doing anything on the computer at the time.
I updated the BIOS to the latest revision, fairly sure no virus involved (Norton anti-virus reports no problems).
I repartitioned and restored the computer, it ran for a week with the computer on nonstop, then when I rebooted yesterday, got another STOP 0x00000050 Page Fault In Non Paged Area.
I only set up the bare minimum on the computer: Norton Systemworks, my internet connection, and the game Return from Castle Wolfenstein - this wasn't on the computer before, and I put it on as something to try to give the machine a workout.
Since everything up to this point has suggested drivers, I set up the Windows Verifier on any unsigned drivers (the two are aspi32.sys and symlcbrd.sys, the first is related to the CD-ROM and is suspect to me since the errors seem to increase with CD usage, the second is from Norton systemworks)
I have all of the tests except the special pool selected, because whenever that one is selected, the system BSOD's on boot with a STOP 0x000000CD System is attempting to access memory beyond the end of the allocation error message and I have to boot into safe mode to stop it.
I am at a loss on how to proceed. Is this a hardware problem with the MB or CPU? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
