Bryce renders slowly

I'vr been using bryce 5 at work(dont ask why GE medical needs bryce), but anyway, no our 2.8ghz, 512mb, radeon9000 systems, it renders uincomprehensibly slow. a simple sphere on a ground plane, sky turned off, 1 light, and all light effects on/custom, fine anti alising, no textures on sphere/ground/no gel light, it takes around 20 minutes to render.

What is bryce dependant on GPU or CPU? Ram maybe? What can I do to make it render faster? It's infuriating to sit there and wait for so long.

CPU dependent afaik. Have any unoccupied machines you can farm the render out to? One of our artists here uses a bunch of our G5s (which we hardly touch) as a mini render farm. I think he uses maya though. Not sure what the capabilities of bryce are as far as breaking up the render work.

Bryce is really slow at rendering. You'd need some kind of 20GHz monster to make that program run well.
