Brutuskend's first YACT...

So I've been driving around all winter in my summer car. (Air cooled VW with NO heat) Because my headlight switch in my winter car was broken. Now the steering box in my VW is going out (been acting bad for a LONG time) and it's raining and I have no place to change it out that isn't WET and nasty. So I decide it would be better to just fix the headlight switch in my other car, since THAT can be done from inside the car. So I go to the junk yard and look around for several hours trying to find a switch that looks like it will work. I finally find one, pull it out (takes all of 10 minutes) drive home and replace it (Again a 10 minute job). So here I've been driving around freezing my ASS of all this time because I was too lazy to track down a switch and R&R it.

I ordered a NEW steering box for the VW too. 🙂 Maybe Thur. it won't be raining and I can swap that out too!

All the years I've been working on cars and NOW it's all I can do to get up the gumption to do the EASIEST jobs on them.

Someone PLEASE kick my ass for me OK!?!??!

What the hell's a steering box? I'm imagining a cube on the end of the steering column.

It's attached to the vitamin globe, it provides nutrients.

No no silly, the pancake on the rabbit's head is what provides nutrients. The vitamin globe lets you travel back in time.

<-- Rears back foot and swings hard, hoping not to miss your buttocks. 😉

I glad you had the courage to fix your headlight switch, enjoy the warmth. 😀

I will! 🙂

Took me an hour and a half to finally get motivated enough to go change my oil. Picked up a filter wrench this morning. After 15 minutes of cussin every Ford engineer who could have possibly helped design such a jackass location for an oil filter I finally got it off. Now the beast happily sits out in the driveway with a new filter and oil.

Oh, and if it makes you feel any better, I have to fix a coolant leak on the wifes car tonight when she gets home.
Stupid cars anyways.

Yeah, its onjly taken me like 2 months off and on to find the little bastard. I *thought* it was the hose to the overfill tank. Ends up a hairline crack is IN the overfill tank. Oh well, I found it, and its nothing a little JB Weld wont plug right up 😀

oil filters are a PITA to change out. my truck's is located horizontally no less so i can't put oil in it before putting it on. the other advantage to it being mounted horizontally is that when you take it off, you get a warm bath of oilly goodness!

Mines horizontal as well. And guess where it is? Bottom of the block, above the front diffy, just behind the frame crossmember. Oh yes, its soooo fun to get to.

Is it a plastic tank? If it's brass, just solder that little sucker up. I had a leak in the top of my radiator and solder fixed it right up. 🙂

Plastic of course. And to really sweeten the cake... If you remember my thread from this summer... The rear sway bar is broke too so thats on the list of things to fix as well. AND it has some weird electrical bugs I have to sort out too!
Its time to ditch that car. :disgust:

Turn the wheels to the left and it's easier to remove the filter.

Its a 97 Taurus with like 115,000 miles on it.

As for my filter, I could remove the wheels and it wouldnt help any. Now, if I dropped the front differential she'd be easy as pie to get to. But thats FAR too much work for an oil filter.

Crap, I'm sorry I thought you had a Crown Vic or Grand Marquis. You must have the Duatech engine in that Taurus, those are a little tight to get the filter off.

No no man. The Taurus filter is a SINCH to get off. Open the hood, reach down and unscrew. Its a snap. The filter on my Expedition is a everloving nightmare to get too though. Yeah, I dont mind changing the oil on the Tuarus at all.
