It came to $132 with shipping and tax for me. I went to a local Walmart that had them in stock, and they were $240 + tax.

It is self propelled, has the large rear wheels, mulching or side discharge, and also bags the grass.

EDIT: Out of stock now. It goes in and out of stock, so if you want it, just keep checking back...

Wow.. That's a good deal. I was shopping for the cheapest self-propelled a few years ago. The best I found was about $200.

It seems the problem is the rear wheels. Those can be replaced pretty cheap if they do break. It comes with a 2 year warranty on it, so you could just call and have new ones sent.

Mechanically it should run great...looks like a great deal to me. Can't beat that with a stick!

Just as a FYI - my local WalMart - about a month ago they had a huge section of returned mowers...50% off because they couldn't RTV for whatever the reason for the return. (Hazmat item I think?) I'd check your local WalMart - garden section to see if they have a returned mower section as well...great way to get a mower for cheap. (This was about 2 months after I bought mine)

Home Depot does that also.

Granted, this IS a good deal...but is it really worth it to save $200 on something that you will probably own for many years? That $99 mower is $99 for a reason...it is probably cheaply made and will not last with time.

We have a $300 ish Toro Recycler (on sale from $450) that we've had for nearly 10 years, and it still runs like new and mulches like no other. Sure, the price of entry is high, but there's a reason why high quality mowers such as Toros and Hondas cost more...they're built to last.

Irrelevant. 3 of the 4 reviews on the Walmart website would NOT recommend this product ... that says something. I would pass ... even for $99 plus shipping.

THIS MOWER beats the Brute any day of the week :laugh:

BTW, The Brute 22" is rated at 2.3MPH, which is slow.

Last year I bought a Troy-Built that was rated at 2.5MPH.
I mowed about three 50' strips, shut it off, cleaned it up, took it back.
I ended up with my dream mower, the John Deere JS40  3.6MPH of pure goodness!

So true, you get what you pay for! I think the Toro is still made in the USA and will last a long time (or is that Snapper?).

I don't have a need for a mower yet (townhouse/condo), but my parents have a Deere push mower they about 15 years ago that still runs just as good as the day they bought it. I pushed that thing everywhere, it's a very well-built piece of kit, but certainly was no $100.

when I was in college I interned at wal-mart corporate hq. I was in the lawn and garden dept in fact. There were several buyers who'd been there for a long time. They had, um, a LOT of walmart stock.

Back then they carried murray in most of the country but had mtd in the southeast. mtd was better, but murray was cheaper. The power equipment buyer was pretty savvy, however. He kept mtd on board to keep murray honest. He didn't like having to rely on one supplier for then entire country for anything if he could help it. He let me sit down with the poulan (weedeater) guys by myself...guess that shows how much respect he had for them! He was working on expanding his homelite offerings b/c they were part of john deere, he REALLY wanted to sell john deeres at walmart. I guess john deere never allowed him to do it b/c it would have cheapened the brand.
