On Elledan's suggestion, I downloaded some Tristania, some Dark Tranquility, and some Behemoth. (yes it took me this long to acquire a working File-Sharing proggy)

All I can say, YEAH!!!!!! Tristania has the wonderful juxtaposition of sweet, pure and calm vocals/instruments and the brutal aggression of guitars and drums, and howling vocals. Definitely very awesome.

No Dark Tranquility songs have been completely downloaded yet, so I have no opinion on them yet.

As for Behemoth, the first song I listened to was Lam. My first thought was that it sounded like Emperor's "Thorns on my Graves," which is a very good thing. It has the same "turn this up and blow out your speakers" effect. Simply incredible. The energy and emotion put into this song is almost overwhelming. The drums arent as powerful as I like; they seem to have an almost muted sound, the intensity and speed of the drumming makes up for it. The vocals are beautifully raw.

I now ask for more suggestions of heavy, nay, brutal metal. I already know Dimmu Borgir, Nile, Emperor, Deicide, Immortal, Entombed, Hypocrisy, In Flames, Therion, Defleshed, Children of Bodom, Exhumed and Wyrd of the Dead. Alternatively, you can see my playlist right here

:D

Cradle of Filth has really brilliant, dark guitar parts, but the singer sounds like david lee roth getting disembowled (a cross between that and a howlermonkey raping a crack baby). I don't listen to that type of music anymore (I grew up).

If you want some very brutal music, check out some Hatebreed. It's more hardcore than blackmetal, but I think you'll like it. Their newest album, Perseverence won't let you down. Also check out some tracks off of "Satisfaction Is The Death of Desire."

For Black Metal, check out some Marduk or Darkthrone. And please, stay the hell away from Cradle of Filth (sorry, don't like em)
