So many fucked up things happening today, why bother going back to 1988 to feel outraged?

I disagree. I think 8 years was definitely long enough to rehabilitate these fine young men and acclimate them back to be functioning members of society.

For his participation in the crime, Kamisaku served eight years in a juvenile prison before he was released, in August 1999.

Well, on second thought...

In July 2004, he was arrested for assaulting an acquaintance, whom he believed to be luring a girlfriend away from him, and allegedly bragged about his earlier infamy. [1] Kamisaku was sentenced to seven years in prison for the beating.

Umm wtf... 8 years for brutally torturing/raping and ultimately raping a chick over 44 days, and 7 years for beating up some guy?

Jails are crowded, and I think we can all agree it's better for the common good to lock up pot smokers if we have to choose.

Sagawa now lives in Tokyo and is a minor celebrity in Japan. He is often invited as a guest speaker and commentator. He also writes restaurant reviews.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mamoru_Takuma
He was ejected from the court before the sentence because he continued to verbally insult the victims and the victims' parents. Takuma remained unrepentant, refusing to apologize to the families of the victims, and only asked for the sentence to be fulfilled as fast as possible. His statement was, "I should have used gasoline, so I could have killed more than I did."

On December 14, 2004, Kobayashi sent an e-mail from Kaede's cellular phone to Kaede's mothers' cellular phones, saying "I'll take her baby sister next." An image of Kaede was included in the e-mail.

Considering most of the atoters here were not born yet I doubt many here will care.

Not to mention not many of us live in Japan so even less would care about it.

Us? Nothing. The Japanese...I couldn't begin to imagine.

I'm glad that most, if not all, US jurisdications don't QQ about trying kids as adults with such heinous crimes, and sticking to a proper punishment.

(not to mention the treatment these bastards get from other inmates)

sentences were probably too short.

on the other hand, their prisons are not soft like ours.
its serious business. like existing in a closet..in a stress position.

Why's the dude bitching though? Read the laws of the country you're entering. Obviously that stuff is illegal. Dont like the rules? Dont enter the country.

He asked for it and he got it. His problem. I'd rather have that jail system here. Those jails at least make a prison a prison, not a relaxation center.
