The Dixie Chicks spoke out about the war and were censored like crazy... records were burned, bad songs were made... a lot of people still hate them...

as a huge Bruce Springstein fan i was worried about the same results when he backed Kerry...

so why neocons and repubs... is the boss too great of a musician to allow politics to make you hate him...

whats the deal?

He's not percieved as a vitriolic figure and he's therefore not treated with vitriol. That and he's just about the quintessetial all American music artist of all time.

I guess he would have to be selling records for people to not buy them. Or stations playing his songs for people to not listen to. When was his last song or album?

I would guess that it is because the Dixie Chick's fanbase is the hicks who love Bush.

Actually his music bores me to tears, I think its his persona that's significant.

Heh, if I was a member of the Dixie Chicks I wouldn't care. Their sales and popularity surged!

I'd say it has to do with population base plus how he went about his support.

1. The DCs specifically attacked President Bush, which Bruce hasn't as far as I know.

2. They did so shortly after 9/11, when the public's nerves were raw, and they were behind the President like no time in several decades.

3. The DCs' fan base largely coincided with the red states. Bruce's largely live in the blue states (at least now that he's not a huge seller).

4. The DCs had more to lose in terms of radio airplay, so when Clear Channel blackballed them, they were hosed.

Selective memory. I heard about him using his stage as a podium many time through news sources. But you are absolutely right chrisms, nothing happened to him like the Dixie Chicks where thousands of Bush loving "hicks" gathered to burn cds and effigies. It reminded me of the Nazi book burning, except hicks are far from the master race with all the inbreding, lack of education and bathing.

Uh..perhaps you missed "The Rising" at the end of 2002...it was only on dozens of critics' top 50 lists and won the 2003 Grammy for best rock album.

I haven't seen Springsteen b!tching and moaning like the Dixie Chicks.
Saying you're for someone is different than talking sh!t about the other guy.

Springsteen actively supporting and campaigning for Kerry isn't really comparable to what the DCs did. All the performances/campaign rallies he did were clearly billed as such ahead of time. He did it the right way. The DCs on the other hand weren't campaigning for anyone. They were performing in a foreign country and were criticizing a sitting president during wartime to a foreign audience. That kind of behaviour is offensive to a large segment of the country which happened to be the segment that made up a large part of their fan base. Had they simply just chosen to actively campaign for kerry rather than blindside their fans with personal attacks on the president in a foreign country during wartime it probably wouldn't have been a big deal.
