Browsers unable to connect to sites after downloading

I just did a fresh install of WinXP (with SP2 and hotfixes slipstreamed) and now I'm having a strange problem. It seems that I can connect to websites as usual until I start up bittorrent or Steam, or anything that takes up a lot of bandwidth. Once I do that, I can't connect to any websites anymore from that computer.

Now this isn't because it's sucking up all the bandwidth. I can still connect to websites with my laptop which is connected to the same router, and the problem persists even after I shut down bittorrent or Steam. I have to reboot my router to get it working again. I have a Linksys WRT54GS v4 with the Tomato v1.07 firmware installed. Anyone got any idea what I can do to fix this?

edit: I should also say that I have the XP firewall disabled and I'm just using ZoneAlarm Pro v6.0.667

Have you tried using the Windows Firewall instead of ZoneAlarm? If not, you might try that as a fact-finding step.

I'll try lowering the number of connections in uTorrent, but the problem also occurs when Steam downloads a game, and that doesn't use multiple connections as far as i know.

I have the same problem with limewire. If I download to much at once it wont let me connect to any website. I lower it a little and its fine. Other then downloading less at once I say just don't worry about it.

That's not the same problem. I've always had the issue of torrents taking up so much bandwidth that I can't connect to a website, but I could always pause the torrents and then connect just fine. Now even if I pause the torrents, or shut down uTorrent completely, I still can't connect to sites. I usually have to reboot Windows, as rebooting the router doesn't seem to fix the problem either most of the time.

Yeah, definitely try lowering the amount of connections.
I altered the settings in utorrent to:
50 Global connections.
100 connected peers per torrent.
4 upload slots per torrent.

Seems to do the trick most of the time, and still sometimes get a great dl speed.
