Browsers giving blank pages

Yes, it's me again.

In recent days, Firefox has been giving me blank white pages when I go to certain sites. It doesn't happen with the biggest of sites like Google, Yahoo or Anandtech.

It's always the same: try and load the page, get blank white page. I right clicked to look at the page source and it was empty. So the page never loaded. If I keep hitting F5, eventually the page will load.

The problem manifests only in Firefox and Chrome. It has no problems in IE 11.

I've experimented with disabling AdBlock and Session Manager, the only plugins common to FF and Chrome. No dice, problem persists. There are no other common plugins between the two browsers.

If you restart Firefox with add-ons disabled, do you run into the same issue?

Ok, I disabled every single plugin/add-on and still had the same problem. Here is one page that absolutely will not load on Firefox or Chrome but will on IE.

Mind you, the main page of that site loads. But it absolutely will not load that particular page.

For what it's worth, I am pulling up the site just fine in Firefox on my phone.

Well now it's confined to Firefox. Every page that won't open in FF will open in Chrome. And that includes Slashdot.

I abandoned Chrome because it didn't have a URL bar, which I liked, and because it poorly rendered many pages. I guess now it's FF's turn to suck.

You might have a corrupt profile in FF. Try creating a new one and see if it makes a difference.

May be the website you are visiting has some technical issues since you have said anandtech, google and yahoo are loading efficiently.

This would definitely be the next thing to check.

The problem resurfaced in Chrome again. Same page refused to load in both Chrome and FF.

Well take a peek at the source of the above link. Mind you, the main page for that site loaded right up. But the specific message board just would not load. I had to hit f5 a bunch of times.

Ok the profile thing didn't work. There are very specific sites with the problem, but here's the thing. I left the FF console open.

Here you can see the main menu of the Encylopedia Metalum message board with the HTML visible below. But look what happens when I click the first message board, Metal Discussion

Not the empty HTML at the bottom. It's not even loading.

So what does this say?

Some suggestions:

• Make sure you aren't having an IP address conflict with another computer/device on your LAN.
• Disable Antivirus and test.
• Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and visit the pages in all browsers again. If the problem persists then the problem may be with your modem/router.
• Boot into Linux Live USB and test with whatever browser/s are installed. If the problem persists, then it's almost definitely a modem/router issue. (Use the Download option and install a lightweight distro such as Slitaz or MacPup.)

Edit: Also, is this a wired or wireless network connection?

Wired, and dedicated. No other PCs use it. Some wireless devices use it but that's it. One PC to one modem.

I think I found it. The problem vanished on known problem sites when I uninstalled Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. We'll see how it works over time.

Glad you figured it out, and that's why I suggested disabling AV. For some reason AV really screws up browsing with their web "protection".

Oh tell me about it. Thanks for the reminder, my AV was the first thing I looked at.

A few months ago I removed Webroot because it was CONSTANTLY blocking web sites that were harmless. Had enough of the false positives.

I've had it to do this (or something similar) several times in the paid version since V2.0 was released. While it is still really good software, the realtime protection module in the premium version of the newer 2.x version just doesn't seem to me to be as stable as it was in the older 1.x versions. I've probably had to remove and reinstall it more times since 2.x was released than I ever did in all the years I spent running the 1.x versions combined.

I'm convinced, though, that the most recent problems I had with it back in May were not Malwarebytes' fault but rather were related to that botched Windows Update KB3022345 by Microsoft. Once I finally figured out what was going on and got the file corruption mess cleared up from that, a lot of system instability (which included problems with Malwarebytes) on my machines went away and hasn't returned.

Bitdefender Free and forgetaboutit. Cloud based and light. Don't even know it's there. I run Sandboxie as well.
