You know how you hear of those netzero ads saying for $5 more, you can get netzero highspeed which is essentially dialup with a compressor that compresses text and graphics... Well I was wondering if there was a plugin for Firefox that would provide essentially the same thing because sometimes I need to get online and the only way I can is with my cellphone with laptop which provides GPRS speeds which is, essentially dialup. Therefore I need a way to make browsing speeds at least bareable.. Any ideas? Maybe a small separate program that can do the graphics compression for me, really want to avoid using IE..

IIRC, netzero highspeed and other similar services download the uncompressed content to their server, compresses it and then sends the compressed content to the client. It is because of this caching and compression on a remote server makes me think that this would not be possible with a browser plugin.

Some sites will use things lke gzip to compress the page before sending it to you, but there's no way you can force a site to do that from the client.

No. But you might be able to find one that does a read-ahead cache. As in it loads all the links on that page while you're still reading it.

Though, if you pay for bandwidth, that's probably a bad idea.

Nope, I have unlimited bandwidth on my cellphone for $20 a month which is WELL WORTH IT for the use I've given it, most services equivalent to this are much much more expensive.
