I'm using Road Runner for my internet provider and just recently started getting "ad - microsoft internet explorer" advertisements when my computer is idle, not on the internet. Is there someway to get rid of this. I think my browser is active continusly. Please help.

use ctrl-alt-del and check what's running in the background, and kill them if you know they're not something you'll need...

another alternative is to use zone alarm and block suspicious connections

Alternatively, if you're running Win98 or ME, got to Start -> Run, and type in 'msconfig' (without the quotes). Click on the startup tab, and get rid of any of the things you don't need. Make sure you keep checked the following: ScanRegistry, SystemTray, TaskMonitor, LoadPowerProfile, and whatever antivirus stuff you have loading. Click OK, reboot, and see if your problem goes away.

If you're running Win2K, you've got me. 🙂
