My brother's Xbox has been showing very bright colors for the past couple weeks. His TV works just fine otherwise, it's just the Xbox causing the problems.

I'm assuming the video card or something else on the motherboard is screwed up...Correct? How would I go about fixing that? Buy a new/used motherboard off Ebay? Does it matter which version I get?

Thanks

How hot is your room? Those kinds of distortions are a common side affect of overheating on GPUs.

No warranty, bought it used and didn't have any problems with it before.

Yzzim, here's a stupid suggestion, but have you made sure that all the connections are clean and secure?

Make sure the vents for the machine are clear of any dirt, hair, or much that could be preventing good air flow to cool the inside of the machine.

Try a new tv, plugs, or cables and if that still fails get a new one and make gates a bit richer :D
