Well apart from Starforce...I'm more concerned with any website that stores my information autpmatically and doesn't allow me to specify for it not too....evertime you log in that site knows your shipping info. Do they also store your credit card information?

I can deal with Starforce, but I can't deal with some no0b having my CC #

I have a credit card that let's me create virtual numbers that are only good for one month. I only use a virtual card number for placing an order online.

Really? That's great to know. Is it a card through your bank? I'll have to look into getting one.

It is through citibank. I guess I could have banking with them too. But, I don't.

Hate to break it to you, but once you run the game, and it detects no SF drivers, it recreates them.
So unless you use a patch to get rid of SF, your still infected.

It depends on what you mean by infection.
I have a few games like that and I have never noticed any problems. But, may be my PC is infected and I never noticed! Is there a way to find out?

Sure, open up device manager, and click the 'show hidden devices' in the menu, and scroll down, and use will see starforce infection.

Thanks for the tip.

I downloaded and installed the demo.
Played it a little bit.
Then, checked the device manager as you mentioned. Under "NON-Plug and Play Drivers", sure enough, I could see the Starforce drivers!
http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/Navid/starforce.JPG

Then, I restored my C drive.
Downloaded the NoDVD exe.
Replaced the game executable with it on my D drive.
Ran the game again by running the new executable.
There is no sign of any Starforce drivers now.
http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/Navid/NoStarforce.JPG
In this picture, you can see I have alt tabbed out of the game and the device manager is clean.

I will do the same thing when I receive the game.

Yeah, as I said, if you use the patch, then you won't get the starforce crapola.
However, if you run the original.exe again, then it will install the starforce drivers again.
It just is a huge PITA to get rid of that crap. Then people wonder why their once stable system gets to be unstable.

1. I had no idea it used Starforce
2. To this day, there is no way to run this game on XP64bit.

So I have this game, brand new just sitting around. I refuse to install XP 32bit just to play one game. Funny thing... if I had gone the illegal way. I'd be able to play it :|

Hate to show my ignorance, but better now than later. Two questions:
1) how do I tell if I've got XP 64bit or XP 32bit?

2) I already bought (but didn't try to install yet) "BIA, Road To Hill 30". How can I tell if that uses Starforce?

Thanks for any help.

Edit: I looked under AdminTools, desktop.ini & saw the following:

[LocalizedFileNames]
Component Services.lnk=@C:\WINDOWS\System32\comres.dll,-XXX
Computer Management.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-XXXXX
. . .
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-XXXXX

Do all the system32 references mean I've got XP 32bit?

If you bought XP from store/came on your computer, then you got 32bit version.
If you upgraded that to 64, then you got 64bit version. It was a seperate download, and I think some OEMs offer it, but not many.

You also need a 64bit capable CPU...

I got an OEM version of XP when I built my computer in 2002. Only upgrade was service pack 2. My CPU is an Athlon 1600+.

...is Starforce really that much of a PITA?

If you want to use a virtual drive to play all your games, or if you want to make a backup media (DVD) of the game, yes!

That sucks..I <3 virtual drive.

I just might have to buy them anyway -- not a bad deal :)

Caan someone tell me where I can get this patch? Is it similiar to a standard patch that installs updates? I would like to play SC:CT, however I never purchased it due to the issue with Starforce. I loved SC: PT, and would like to play CT before the next game arrives.

Nobody in this thread has suggested that you play a game without buying it! I hope you did not think that I did.

I received the game today. It is on CDs. Wasn't the gogamer web site advertised it as being on a DVD?

There is no box either! It is just the 4 CDS and the manual shipped inside a shipping envelope. Has anyone else got this?

Just got this today too. The website did mention this was the DVD version, and that it was in a Jewel Case. A little dissapointed by this tbh.

What does your receipt say? If it was supposed to be DVD, then I would tell them to ship you the DVD version.

I havent recieved my order yet, but both BIA and Chaos Theory were supposed to be on DVD. I have purchased lots of PC games from gogamer in the past and they have always been in sealed retail boxes. I will be disappointed if these are not.

Does anybody have an image of the web page that can be used as a proof that it was supposed to be on DVD?

You can use this to download Daemon Tools, which let's you set up a virtual drive.

You can find information about it on their site. This is the help for the tool.

BTW, some companies blacklist Daemon Tools (and some other virtual drives). Usually Securerom protected games. If it detects DT, (or some others) it gives a error message, or worse, crashes the system.

All virtual drive software tools are great, nothing like copying the cd you own to the HD, and then it can access it 100x faster.

As did mine. However, the discs are clean and they installed/played perfectly.
