Brother wants to get a 360, i have one already

as the title and subtitle say...

obviously i would sell him my xbox for a good deal.

so, if you were in my shoes, would you sell him your old xbox 360 (with the 20 gig hdd) and then use those proceeds and throw in some extra cash to get the 120 gig/hdmi black version of the xbox?

i haven't had the RROD yet (knock on wood) and are the new xbox's more reliable? should i wait?

also, what price do you think you would charge your brother for an xbox 360? it's been kept in very good shape.

thanks

Does yours have the HDMI port? If not, it's the old design with alleged 30+% failure rate, so $100 ?

Google "xbox 360 Falcon" for 1,000 opinions on current reliability. It seems to be better and one supposed insider claims the alleged failure rate has dropped from 30+% to under 10%.

If you can wait until later this year (might be August, no one knows) there will be a new version of the graphics chip (65nm process instead of 90nm) in the "Jasper" 360 that will run cooler and possibly solve the 360 reliability issues for good.

Why sell it to your freaking brother? Just give it to him. It's only $100 measly bucks and it that thing is probably a ticking RRoD bomb.

 true

Eh true to an extent. I'm not sure how true this is across the board when it comes to RRoDing but mine exhibited some symptoms before it bit the dust. Namely there would be the random game crash, disc read errors on good discs, that kind of thing. Not saying that this particular 360 won't bite the dust sometime in the future but it seems typically there is some kind of warning that the bomb is about to go off.

Give it to him as an early birthday or Christmas present. When it fails it will be his problem to deal with 😛

Yeah, I'd say just give it to him.

hahaha. i do see that everyone has suggested this.

i probably will, BUT i always treat him to things whenever i see him (i dont think there's ever been a dinner or lunch that he's ever had to pay for when we're hanging out) and he's not a kid anymore either. he's getting his phd now. also, he has no debt whereas law school has put me massively in debt.

the only thing is though, i love my xbox and i dont think im ready to drop 450 for a new one for the sole purpose of preventing my brother from having to purchase one on his own.

ill have to think about whether i can afford to or should purchase a new xbox.

Why is it so important that you get a new one? Admit it...you want to sell him what you think could eventually be a faulty one in the hopes of buying a more reliable one.

Agreed. When you get older, for your younger brother's birthday, you can also introduce him to one of your ex-girlfriends. He will get lots of enjoyment, until he has to deal with the clap. Same analogy as your used 360, except the clap is easier to cure than the shite design of the 360.

i NEVER needed a new one! man. some of you are out to make me the bad guy. i have an xbox that, knock on wood, hasn't had trouble yet. my brother sent me an email a couple days ago asking if this used system he saw was a good deal. i thought that since my system was good so far and hadn't had any issues, i could definitely "offer" him mine and then get a new one. it was never my GOAL to get a new one. i just didn't want my brother to take a risk with an older xbox that he couldn't tell had potential problems. like i've said, i've taken good care of my xbox - so im pretty sure he would be fine with mine.

i asked about a fair price because it would be tough to shell out 450 bucks for a new xbox. if i dont offer my brother my xbox, he'll probably end up buying one anyways. since he's not as big a gamer as i am, i thought we might both be better off if i "sell" him my older one and i buy a new elite system. i just don't want to see him get an xbox only to have the RROD happen.

man, though. it's funny to see how quickly ppl jumped on me for potentially trying to get my brother to fund a secret desire to get a new elite xbox system.

he's not sure if he wants an xbox anyways, but i would think that paying a little would make sense for getting an xbox in really good condition (obviously if i could figure out the "break-even" price, i wouldn't have made this post; im obviously not looking for a profit and if i do "sell" it to my brother, i would just give him any game i have that i don't really play anymore).
