Brother MFC-J870DW Ink Absorber Full?

Is there a way to clean the "ink absorber", and how long does it take for it to fill up prior to getting the warning error message?

Yes, just take it to the Brother service center.
Or you can do it yourself if its past the warranty period and disassemble and look around for an ink tank or pad to throw out/replace. And then search online for the the correct sequence of keypresses to reset the ink absorber full counter.
