Brother MFC-240C on WinXP desktop, PC LinuxOS laptop unable to see it

ok I installed the mfc-240c linux drivers,i have run printer setup and punched in ip address of my network, done a network scan etc and I have printing for unix installed and running on the winxp pro desktop but I cannot see the printer to print to it. Can someone help me here. this is the only thing I cannot get to work on pclinux. I have shared the printer on the xp desktop and gave it a name but cannot figure out how to determine the IP address of the printer of it has one. I will post whatever info or screen shots you guys need.
 
So are you trying to print directly to the printer via the network or via a Windows share on your XP machine?
 
via the network I believe. I did make sure that the printer is shared on my xp machine (the printer has the share hand icon etc)
 
Do I have to set anything in my wireless router to make sure its not blocking the printer to be seen?

You just said yes to both options in my question. I know it's via the network but are you aiming to print directly to the printer (doubtful unless you have one with a NIC or it plugged into a print server) or is it plugged into the XP machine and thus you're trying to print to it via a Windows share on that machine?
 
yes but i cant figure oyt which ip address to give it or which user to choose. I have tried everything I can find. do i choose samba printer or network printer etc etc there is like 6 choices
 
The hostname is whichever XP machine is hosting the share and the username/password is likely whatever you normally use unless you setup something special for this.
