From 12/1 to 12/7, Staples has the HL-1440 for $249.98:

They also have a rebate for $30 Staples gift check:

$30 Staples gift check rebate

Search for "staples coupons" at chubby wallet for a $40 off $200 coupon code (exp date 1/31/03, the first one on dragon007's list) and a *stackable* $10 off $50 coupon (exp date 12/31/02, the last one on the list).

Add paper clips (SKU 525881) to bring the total past $250.

Final price:

$249.98
+ $0.21 (OIC Paper clips, SKU 525881)
- $40 off $200 coupon
- $10 off $50 coupon
- $30 Staples gift check
------------------------------------
= $170.19 AR AC

This is a very good laser printer. Here are two threads if you want to read about it:

thread 1

thread 2

Here are prices of supplies for this printer:

6000-page toner (TN460) for $55.48 at buy.com

20000-page drum (DR400) for $101.59 at Amazon (Use $5 off $35 coupon to get it down to $96.59)

Here's Brother's webpage listing model number of accessories and supplies for the HL-1440:

ps...

1. Don't forget to use Ebates to get an extra 2% off. McPhreak has good instructions in her thread (thread 2 above).

2. Credit goes to Igowerf for pointing us to the $10 off $50 stackable coupon.

This is THE BEST laser printer IMHO for the home or a small office.

I own the predecessor 1240 and love it.

Thanks 🙂

Check their Hot Deals forum, search for Staples Coupon, it's there along with a $50 off $200 coupon.

I've been eyeing this printer for awhile and had to finally jump on it. I rather get a check back but the store credit will do. All the $50 off $200 coupons listed on FW all seem to have expired so I just used the $40 off $200. I also picked up a spindle of 50 CDRs that should be free after rebate (SKU#496732).

Good thing I kept those 72pin SIMMs around as this printer takes them, I assume they are going for pretty cheap on e-bay as well.

From the second thread linked in the original post:

The Brother printers are ok, if you use them at least a few times a day. If you let them sit idle for days, the drum will go bad very fast (about $110 to replace). I had 2 Brother laser printers and both had this problem. Brother will not replace the drummer under warranty, they said it's a "consumable item".
Their customer service is lousy too. I will not buy Brother products anymore. There are Lexmark deals going on right now, they are much better printers and has great customer service.

Anyone else have this problem? Or heard of this problem with Brother laser printers?

I love my HL-1440 printer! Im going to buy another one for the wife. I let mine sit for days with out printing. It powers it self off and start backup when it sees a print job.

I have had the printer for a year and have not had this problem, it's on idle mode all the time.
Lexmark sure has one of the best customer service. However, their printers are not better. You just got bad luck with Brother, that's all.

I do the exact same thing with my Brother HL-1240 laser printer and I only print on average 2 pages a week. Whenever the printer senses a print job spooling it turns on, prints, waits about 5 minutes then turns off. I just leave it ON all the time.

I've been using the same original drum/toner cartridge since I bought it back in January 2001, that's almost 2 years ago!

There's a $10 off $50 that you can stack with the $40 off $200. I added some paperclips and got mine for about $200 shipped before the $30 gift check.

Trying to find a stackable coupon now since I can only find the $40.00 coupon. Going to try and order one for the wife tonight. hohoho 🙂

I heard on FW, Staples CSR will cancel 2nd coupon later. So while your order will go through later they will just add back on the $10. Guess it's still worth a try though...

Probably just bad luck, but.....

Bought one for my dad......1st unit started smoking after a week or so of light printing.
returned for a replacement....upon startup, it sounded like the gears were grinding, even without toner cart installed.
returned for a replacement and asked for money back. They gave a 3yr no hassle return/exchange warranty at Officedepot.

replacement unit has been working fine for a couple months now....great and fast prints.

Just a heads up......

The $10 off $50 wasn't removed from my order, but they added tax which wasn't shown when I checked out. 🙁 $215 final price for me before $30 gift check.

We have bought 6 of them in all for a small business office. Plus the identical unit with a fax head on top, for a high volume plain paper fax. No problems so far.
