My brother bought BF3 on Origin but it won't let him even start downloading it. It says he needs to update his operating system which is XP pro. But it is updated.. any ideas?

I also bought it on origin and mine is downloading as I type but I have win7 ultimate.

I could be wrong, but I think the message may have been asking for your brother to do more than just update his WinXP install (i.e. it may have been asking him to upgrade to a more recent OS). Will BF3 even run on XP? I know it's not supported but I don't know if that means it won't run at all or if they aren't offering any sort of ongoing support for that OS.

Sorry OP, brother should have read the min requirements better. It's been quite outspoken and well known that BF3 won't support DX9. There's been a couple threads discussing it here as well.

Might not have been totally his fault, at least with Amazon their pre-order listed it available for XP.

Mistakes happen, doesnt make someone dumb. Its not unreasonable to think that since most all games run on XP that some people won't think to pay attention to what OS it runs on.
Now if it said Mac/Linux only, i wonder how many others with Windows anything would make the same mistake.
