i hate brother; they dont have 24 hr tech support, and its nearly impossible to know whats wrong with it with the retarded error codes it gives - i couldnt find a list of error codes on their site anywhere iirc.

just be forewarned - you get what u pay for

Another FYI, these Brother inkjet machines suck ink like crazy. Cartridges don't last very long, no matter what you print and if you run out of any ink (C, M, Y, or K), the machine won't work unless all the ink tanks have ink in them.

I have the 210c and love it had it for 4 months now and still on original carts with some heavy printing plus the generic carts for it are only $2-3. I don't see how anyone can say these suck ink. Print quality may not be perfect but is very good and more then what I need. Never have gotten any error codes or had to deal with tech support. But then again at this price Id consider it a disposable printer anyway if anything did go wrong. Best thing about this printer to me is the small size, front loading paper, and generic no chip ink carts. Cons would be the flimsy scanner lid, flimsy paper tray, and the envelope loading you have to remove paper.

I have read reviews about them eating ink, and then the next review says that they do not...
Even if it does eat ink, the replacements can be gotten fer cheap!
< $40 for a AIO has got to have some downfalls!

I've had one for about a year and have had no issues with it. It is time to replace the black ink cart though.

I even used a $15 print server to network this unit and everything works fine except the scanner option. For some reason scanning won't work over the network, but will if connected directly via USB. Doesn't bother me since it is NOT a network ready unit anyway.

Thanks. How does this compare with the comparably priced AIO Brother on sale at Fry's

I've called Brother three times about my MFC-8840D. Admittedly their support is not 24/7, and it is pretty busy on Monday morning, but they have been great with me. Twice they stepped me through procedures that were not in the manual. The third time they determined my machine was defective and replaced it for free (including shipping) and added extra time on the warranty for the replacement. I'm very happy with their tech support.
