Brother 1240 Drum Questions

The Drum indicator light on my Brother 1240 went on, but it's still printing fine. Can anyone tell me how to reset it? Is there are a reason to reset it? If I don't replace it, will the print quality just begin to degrade to the point I'll need to replace it? Thanks.
 
When the drum lite on my 1040 went on, I just ignored it. Was not able to find
any way to get rid of the lite, cleaning the wire did not help

.To check how bad the drum really is, just print a picture or something tha has a lot of black and you will see "white" streaks. In time the
streaks get more pronounced until one day the print quality is real bad and you
have to replace the drum. Drum costs big bucks, like 160-175 as I remember.
