Bro's 2003 350Z front end fell off while driving :(

Met with my parents, brother, aunts uncles, etc for brunch today. Brother shows up driving a dealer car. We all say wtf.. He says, while he was driving away from his house, he hears a loud and disturbing pop sound, then the cars front immediately drops to the ground and the wheels start rubbing the wheel wells. When he got out, both front wheels were cocked at about a 45 degree angle, and the tires were ruined. We was only driving 10mph on a smooth black top road when it happened. Imagine if he was doing 70+?? He has babied the car, as it only has 3,000 miles on it and is already at least 8 months old. He had the dealer come pick it up and he said he refuses to take that car back. He is telling them he either wants a brand new car or his money back.

Sounds like a tie rod broke.

And yes, it could have been desasterous at 70+.

As much as a PITA it is, he was fortunate.

it was possible that something happened that he wouldnt admit, but the dealership already took the blame and stated it was obviously a part failure. he is an jet mechanic too, so he has some good insight on the stuff.

i dont know if he gots pics or not, cause he was going to work when it happened, so had the dealership tow it immediately so he could get a rental car.

btw. this happened right after his driver side mirror fell off when he hit a bump. He also had problems with the driver seat not locking into position.

I was driving home from San Francisco International Airport once, and if you've been there you know how incredibly strong those winds are. I'm in the fast lane (left), and someone's front bumper falls off their car on the other side of the interstate, and the wind pushes it over the center wall and right into my lane. I'm going like 85 at this point, see the thing, just slam on my freakin breaks, and the bumper just gets pushed to the side right before I would have hit it.

ABS = 😀

This has absolutely nothing to do with your story, I just felt like sharing.

I woudlnt' take that car back either... get a new one or money back

Wtf?

at this point he thinks the whole car is a POS. I think he is going to take the money and get an S2000 or wait and get a new Lotus Elise.

That wouldn't cause the front end to drop to the pavement.

he probably got a lemon.

This is very unfortunate though. He better harrass the Nissan dealer to get a brand new 350Z plus $$ in free maintaince and accessories!

Sounds like a control arm failure or a tie-rod end like DOS mentioned. I'd file a complaint with the NHTSA, as well as Nissan of USA because this is a serious safety flaw.

😀 You've never had it happen to you, have you? 😉

But you also have to remember this is third hand info at best. This is TechBoyJK's interpretation of what his brother said happened.

I doubt, the front end was actually on the pavement. Well, maybe. When the tires toe in that bad, the car does drop a number of inches in the front. If that particular car has a low enough ground clearance, it could actually touch the pavement.

So much for Nissan Engineering! 😉

(had to add that.. too much Ford bashing going on over in the Ford GT thread)

most of the Ford-supporters in that thread are Nissan-fan boys.
