Blair Magnet is a science magnet in MD. Blair consistently beats out Stuy every year in science competitions

I voted for Stuyvesant... I didn't go there, never even lived in NYC, but always thought it would have been cool to go there.

Could you make "Regis HS" a choice?
I understand that it is highly rated among schools in NYC.

    DO NOT GOTO BTHS

It is the worse school I ever seen. Principal/teacher conflicts, etc. 7 flights of stairs. Would you go up 7 floors to get to the lunch room ?

Hey stuy is in the city.. - party every day after school

bronx sci - how safe do you think that place is.. cops get shot there more often the cops in stuy :)

I think it might be hard travel to MD daily if you live in NYC to goto a hs.

well, I never bother taking the exams to go to those stinking High Schools :) Probably wouldnt have gotten in any of them ;-)

Went to Edward R. Murrow here in Brooklyn. :p

My cousin currently attends Bronx Science and hates it.
Brooklyn Tech... Don't Know... The people I know that went there say it was a waste of time, alot of work, to competative.. im sure this goes with all 3 High Schools.
Stuyvesent... If they are anything like the kids i see on the subway *Im not exactly sure if they are Stuy students but omg uber uber dorks haha. :) (Well i'm one to...)

    /me shrugs c
Just go to a above average High School... top of the class EASILY then those "nerd farms"

A pile of crock if you ask me, my younger brother is going to BTHS and he says it isn't that bad, it's still MUCH better than many of the NYC public highschools. The top high schools in NYC (in my order from best down) is Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and tied for third place Brooklyn Tech and Townshend harris. These schools are safer as well since the kids at most specilized schools have more common sense than a lot of other hs kids from other schools. Bronx Science is a very safe school, I know because I graduated from there and there hasnt been anything even close to a shooting. We had a couple of fights a year total between students and police constantly patrol the area. The only trouble is the commute as many people have to take the 4/5/D trains to get to the school or pay for the cheese bus service. By the way did you go to any of these schools?

During the time I spent at Bronx Science, I wasn't too happy there since approaching senior year and during, more restrictions were in place. It seemed that many of our past privledges were taken away when compared to the seniors of my freshman year. The workload is challenging and any lazy asses will likely get kicked out... but it weeds out the morons. Most other public NYC schools focus on just the regents which is a joke, no challenge there. These specialized schools usually focus on APs or it is suggested to plan your last two year with them. The purpose is to ready you further for the college workload. A lot of focus is placed on the grades but we always found time to hang out and chill. Now that I'm in college, BxSci was an awesome experience. Wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Hunter! Spent 6 years in that sh*thole.

Bronx Science is a dump. Broooklyn tech is ghetto. Stuy is nice, but hard.

After having gone to one of these special schools before college, my only advice to you is to stay away. The workload is much much more at these schools, and as far as college applications go, they can barely care less. Someone with an 80 at stuy is much much worse off than someone with a 90 at any old run of the mill high school.

Me, I graduaed with a 70 average from hunter college high school, and got shafted on college admissions. Sure, I screwed around, cut all the time, but if I had gone to any high school, I would have had a 95 something and had gotten into most any college.

If you want a lot of work so you can be prepared for the college workload, by all means go. When I got to college all I said was "thats it?" while everyone else was shocked at the thought of 10 page papers. I was writing 10 page papers in 9th grade! If you think going to one of these places is going to better your chances at college admissions, youre pretty much wrong. Ive talked to some of the insiders at colleges when they used to come around our school, and they just raise our average by about 2 points to account for the school.

I say go to a regular high school, enjoy yourself, get MUCH better grades!

Although, if you go to stuy or hunter, you are far less likely to get shot at school. Go to bronx science, and youre asking to get shot.

Bronx Science, Tech, and Stuy are not necessarily for the smartest, but those that really want to achieve in life. And for those that are uber competitive. I went to Brooklyn Tech (got into Bx Science, it was too damn far away, I lived in Queens Village at the time) and I wanted to take all the hard courses, including some of the college courses offered at Polytechnic University down the road. I loved it because I'm extremely competitive. I did well and got accepted into a couple of top schools (including some Ivy Leagues). And these school names do pay off because those same top colleges come to our school to recruit. I never really cared about science competitions because my main interest was finance and politics and my primary goal at Brooklyn Tech was to get into the best college. For those that were pushed into the schools (by their kin), then they would easily flounder. Otherwise, they're perfect for over-achievers.

Unless you're in upper management at bths, you dont know whats going on. I finish bths over 9 years ago. I still keep in contact with the deans, teachers, retired teachers, etc. Kids bringing in 12 inch knives, kids selling drugs, etc. Compared to the bths i knew, its more ghetto now. Mostly it isn't the school but the surrounding area kids that try to sneak in and cause trouble. Also theres another school on the G train 2 stop away that starts trouble.

Unless u go through D line, ur life is in danger.
