the player still boots up. it says hard disk problem so i'm guessing the hard drive is dead. i want to just replace the hard drive.

the model number is HTC424020F7AT00 and i looked on the web...i found the hitach datasheet: http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/c4k40/c4k40.htm and one seller on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-Hitachi-20GB-1-...9QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

i was wondering if i could put in this hard drive and it might work: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822145101

the zen touch's HDD is ATA-5 and the new notebook HDDs are ATA-6. does this make a difference? should i just buy from the ebay seller? will putting a new HDD into my zen touch make it work?

You might need to load up the firmware or something onto the hd, the player itself might do it for you. Do a google search, i know there are some forums dedicated to creative mp3 players, i know there are people who upgrade their hard drives with that same player, so you're basically in the same boat as them.
