Broken Weedwacker?

I finally decided to fix my weedwacker... everytime it starts it stutters and then stops eventually. I thought it might be the gas was stale or something so I emptied out the tank and this fell out. I'm not sure what the purpose is, but is it fixable?

That is the gas line along with the fuel filter/weight. It has a little weight to it, so that no matter what position the weedwacker is in, the fuel filter will always be in the fuel...
 
throw it out and buy a new one
$1 says this one will be a thorn in your side for as long as you own it
i wouldnt spend a nickel on it
